Use of equipment

Use Equipment
Camera is the most important equipment for my music video this is because it helps us to film certain angle-shots and movements which will help give audiences a sense of feeling towards the characters onscreen. For e.g. high-angle shot signifies audiences that the characters powerless and weak etc. It allows us to shoot particular locations and scenes which is why the camera is one of the most important equipment needed in order to record our video.

The tripod is also important equipment needed for our music video. This is because the tripod helps indicate audiences to film steadily rather then the camera shaking. It helps us get the camera shots at the correct angle distance for e.g. panning, tracking etc. This will help us improve the quality of our video by keeping the camera on steadily. For e.g. The long-shot of when the main character walking towards the cafe which we must use a tripod to help audiences imply the establishing conflict for e.g. where tension begins to rise.
The cup of tea equipment is needed for scene 2 at the cafe where the girl has the affair with the first guy. This cup of tea is seen as a romantic equipment where couples usually have when they're located in the restaurant etc. The cup of tea/coffee also symbolizes that the couple are having a special date.

Location Research

Scene 1

In the opening scene of our music video these locations our going to take place where the male character gets ready whilst he goes out of the house. We are going to film the inside of the house this is because this gives audiences a sense of what particular background the character is from. This shows his class background and the styling of the house may help audience know what genre the main character fits in to.

Scene 2

This is is where the cafe scene will take place. We've decided to choose this location this is because its a quite area not as busy as the high street. The is a right location for us this is because the layout of the cafe gives target audience a hint that thats where the romantic part of the scene is about to take place between the girl and the second male.

Scene 3
Our third scene location takes place at a high street near the cinema and the shopping centre. This is a location is quite effective for our scene this is because the cheating girl is about to have another affair with another boy carrying popcorns. The popcorn implies to audiences that the couple had just came out of the cinema. The cinema also gives us an idea that its a common place where couples spend their romantic time together.

Scene 4:

This location is where tension begins to rise which also creates impact on audiences. This is because the main character will be running away from his situations this is because he sees the cheating girl everywhere he goes. The location is creates impact on audiences as it is set in a quiet region and will leave the audience more surprised as the girl can come out from the corner which would not have been expected which gives a more awkward feeling that is what we needed for the scene.
Scene 5:
Our final location which takes place at the park is a great location we decided to choose. This is because the railings surrounding the park allow us to have the boy lean on them and catch his breath upset and paranoid until the new female walks towards him. The park is also a quiet location and gives a nice family feel with the flowers and open grass, which allows us to make he scene more calm and romantic, as the park is very wide and bright and colorful. We are able to use the scene where we have the boy and girl facing as we can see the cheating girl in the distance from the two new couples.

Music Video Treatment

Music video Treatment

The music video to our chosen song ‘Never Get Lost by Your Side’ is set to be a narrative based video with added performance shots of the artist. As the lyrics to the song are based on a possible breakdown in a relationship between a boy and girl due to cheating and lies, we decided to follow the story and base the narrative on the cheating and lies of a female on her boyfriend. In our video we chose to flip common conventions on the head as we decided to have a female as the cheat instead of the male. This is due to us basing the principle character on the lead singer of ‘4kicks’, and to get the audience thinking about the relationship of the two and to shed a better light on females.

Scene 1

The opening scene to our music video is set to represent a flashback of the male as he is shown to be thinking about the good times in his relationship with the female. The first shot to our music video is set to be is a romantic location as the boy and girl look to be in love with each. Other. This shot will then zoom out and out from a picture of the boy and girls. This will then cut to shots as the male gets up out of bed. The shots will be taken of the male getting up and getting ready to leave his house such as having a wash.

Scene 2

The following scene will be based on the male as he leaves home to set out on a normal day in his life. A number of different shots will be taken as the male walks from his house to the café location. At this point, the male will look into the window of the café as we are able to see the cheating girl with another male together in the café with passionate facial expressions. This leads to the principle male character to walk on and follows the lyrics as the female is shown with another boy.

Scene 3

The male character then walks on from the café as again a number of different shots are taken to present the character walking a distance. The male then turns off the pavement onto a high street as a P.O.V shot is taken of the male locking eyes with other unknown females. The tracking P.O.V shot then shows someone walking into the male, As the male turns around to see who had barged him, the cheating female is seen yet again with another male eating popcorn which could represent that the female is also seeing and having a romantic time with yet another different male.

Scene 4

The scene then follows on to the principle male feeling very shocked as he carries on seeing his ex girlfriend with plenty of other males. He begins to start running from the scene as he is shown to be all over the place. As he is running from the scene, the cheating female keeps on intervening in every shot as no matter where the male goes he keeps on seeing the females face.

Scene 5

As the male stops to catch his breath in the final location, we see a hand come into the shot and tap the male on his shoulder. A reaction shot is then used as he audience are set to believe that the hand belongs to the cheating female although when the camera turns, we see a different female though she looks very similar to the cheating female previously. The two begin to talk and close up shots are taken as the boy and girl present passionate facial expression as the audience see romance between the boy and girl. The boy and girl then begin to walk until they come to a stop and turn and face. As the two face each other, we can see the cheating female in the background distance of the shot. When the shot cuts to the male and back to the shot of the boy and new girl facing, the female in the background disappears which shows that the male is finally over and rid of the cheating female.

Lyrics and Script Development

Chosen Actors/Actress

Benjamin Cross:
This is our main chosen character for our music video this is because his use of costume signifies he’s a young male who is trapped in his relationship who is not sure whether to go back or move on. His use of costume also fits into the indie genre by the use of black jeans. He expresses his feelings to how he feels in our chosen track. In additional he’s the vulnerable character this is because he feels insecure about his ex-girlfriend cheating on him by dating different guys.

Jenny Chivers:

This is my second chosen character that is another which plays the powerful role of the music video. She’s described as manipulative and backstabbing who plays the harmless and deceiver. She’s one of the most important characters in this music video this is because she in control and has the power of the relationship which is why she could do what she feels like and cause chaos to her ex-boyfriends feelings.

Tahir Sharif :

This character is the first guy that Rosa has an affair with. He’s seen as a gentleman who tends to be nice and polite who puts his hands round her hands. He does not need to fit into the indie genre as the principle female character, will cheat on the principle male with anyone. Tahir implies to audiences he’s a sophisticated male.

Alastair Robin Duncan :

This is a third male character she has an event with at the cinema. His role in our music video is more of a masculine character Rosa’s second guy that she has an affair with. Ben barges into him and finds out he is with his ex and looks totally confused. As he is our 3rd male character he suits the male genre as his long curly hair and skiiny figure represents the common indie image. Alastair is also important as he will attract a female audience.

Genie Abbott:

She is the final girl who the main character (Ben) meets at the park. He (Ben) plays the same game as his ex-girlfriend did. She wears the same costume as his ex-girlfriend, which reminds him off his-ex however they seem to be interested in each other by giving eye contact. His ex does find out however she fades away when the two new couple meet. She would also attract male audiences and fit into the common representation of an indie based image.

This was my first draft of how I was going to plan my script for my music video. I did however made a few changes to this script this is because me and my team member combined our ideas together on what should be included in our script/music video and what shouldnt be in.
This has helped us develop what to include in our final script this is because we've printed out a new script and underlined whats going to happen in each line.
